Where Poetry Inspires Movement and Movement Tells a Story

HELLO BURAANBURISTA!

Experience the beauty of Buraanbur—a powerful art of Somali storytelling through movement that celebrates joy, freedom, and femininity. These sessions are designed to help you connect with yourself and others, grow your confidence, and take up space unapologetically.

Are you looking to perfect your skills with 1:1 personalised classes? Maybe you’re a bride-to-be wanting your loved ones to shine on your big day, a best friend planning a special surprise for the bride-to-be, or hosting family and friends visiting London and looking to share a Somali-inspired activity full of energy and movement. Whatever the occasion, these sessions are the perfect way to connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

These classes are carefully designed to make Buraanbur accessible and enjoyable for everyone - no experience needed. Each session breaks down the movements step by step, with clear instructions and patient guidance so you can build confidence at your own pace.  I have heard it all! "I have two left feet," "I cant dance," "I dont know much about Somali culture" - with practice and a little patience you'll leave my studio goob ready. For my non-Somali speakers: goob refers to the circle where Buraanbur is performed.

See you soon.

WHAT IS BURAANBUR?

Buraanbur is a traditional Somali art form created by women - a fusion of spoken poetry and expressive

movement. It is where rhythm meets language, and language meets the body. More than performance, it is an art form that has allowed Somali women, for generations to share stories of joy, sorrow, resistance, love and celebration.
